DIFFERENT CARPET CLEANING METHODS

Low Moisture Methods
Low moisture cleaning has the advantage of little or no drying time. A thorough vacuuming is necessary before beginning either dry or wet cleaning.
POWDER. This method involves sprinkling a powder product over the carpet and working it in with a brush to dislodge dirt that is absorbed by the powder and then removed by vacuuming. This is only a temporary surface cleaning and the deep dirt will soon reappear.
BONNET METHOD. The carpet is sprayed with a fine mist of water and detergent before going over it with an oscillating brush covered with special dirt-absorbing pads which are periodically replaced with clean ones as they get dirty. However, some detergent is usually left in the pile, increasing chances of re-soiling, and the spinning pads can leave swirl marks.
High Moisture Cleaning
SHAMPOO MACHINES. The carpet is covered with a foaming detergent and scrubbed with rotating brushes. Dirt picked up by the shampoo is vacuumed away after a long period of drying. Unfortunately, shampoo machines bury as much dirt as they remove. Most detergents contain a brightening agent that makes the carpet look cleaner than it really is and stains soon resurface.
STEAM CLEANING. These truck-mounted systems involve spraying hot water and detergent over the carpet, working it into the pile, and extracting the dirty water into the truck’s holding tank. This method provides deep cleaning as opposed to surface cleaning.
